Public Safety
A vast majority of public safety communications located within Douglas County can be found on the APCO Project 25 State of Colorado Digital Trunked Radio System (DTRS).
There are exceptions for areas on the northern and western edges of the county. These areas include Roxborough Park area of northwest Douglas County which is served by West Metro Fire operating on Metro Area Radio Cooperative (MARC), City of Aurora in northeast Douglas County which operates on Aurora P25, and the southwest portions of Douglas County which is served by North Fork Fire and Mountain Communities Fire on conventional VHF.
Normal users of DTRS may occasionally use VHF/800 MHz conventional frequencies, especially in the more rural and mountainous parts of western Douglas County where DTRS coverage is insufficient or not used as the primary means of communications.

Fire Department
Douglas County is protected by 10 different fire departments which include the Aurora Fire Department, Castle Rock Fire and Rescue Department, Franktown Fire Protection District, Jackson 105 Fire Protection District, Larkspur Fire Protection District, Mountain Communities Volunteer Fire Department, North Fork Volunteer Fire Department, South Metro Fire Rescue, West Douglas Fire Protection District, and West Metro Fire Rescue. A detailed map of these fire district boundaries can be found here (PDF).
Multiple dispatch centers provide fire dispatching services for fire departments located both within and outside of the county. The two primary centers that provide fire dispatching services in Douglas County are Douglas Regional 911 Communication’s Center and South Metro Fire Rescue's Metropolitan Area Communications Center (MetCom). Aurora Public Safety Communications Department, Jeffcom, and Teller County also provide fire dispatching services for the departments that cover areas near the border county.
Douglas County Dispatch
Douglas Regional 911 Communication’s Center dispatches for Castle Rock Fire and Rescue Department, Franktown Fire Protection District, Jackson 105 Fire Protection District, and Larkspur Fire Protection District on Dispatch 1 (TG 1053). Dispatch 1 is shared with Elbert County fire departments. Douglas County Dispatch has the ability to assign operations channels and conventional simplex fireground channel for use if requested.
MetCom
South Metro Fire Rescue's Metropolitan Area Communications Center (MetCom) dispatches for South Metro Fire Rescue and West Douglas Fire Protection District in Douglas County.
MetCom dispatches South Metro Fire Rescue on MetCom 1 (TG 1786) using an automated voice dispatching system. Units respond on MetCom 2 (TG 1792) for most incidents. A major incident is typically automatically assigned one of MetCom's operations channels. MetCom has the ability to assign several conventional simplex fireground channel for use if requested.
West Douglas Fire Protection District
West Douglas Fire Protection District is dispatched by MetCom on West Douglas' channel (TG 1791). This talkgroup is patched with the VHF West Douglas repeater (151.025 MHz). All responses within West Douglas' district typically stays on their channel. West Douglas often uses automatic aid from South Metro Fire Rescue, so dispatch for calls may sometimes be heard on MetCom 1.
Aurora Fire Rescue
Aurora Fire Rescue is dispatched by the Aurora Public Safety Communications Department on Aurora P25. Aurora Fire Rescue is in charge of fire protection for all areas within the boundaries of the City of Aurora. Aurora Fire Rescue requires a P25 Phase 2 capable scanner in order to monitor them. They are dispatched on Dispatch (Aurora TG 39101) and respond on any of their tactical talkgroups, most often Tac 2 (Aurora TG 39102) for routine calls.
Jeffcom
Jeffcom dispatches North Fork Volunteer Fire Department and West Metro Fire Rescue.
North Fork Volunteer Fire Department is dispatched on VHF conventional.
West Metro Fire Rescue is dispatched on Dispatch (MARC TG 37785), as well as using an automated voice dispatching system on Tac 6 (MARC TG 37790). Note that the automated voice dispatch is not always functional. Units respond on Tac 2 (MARC TG 37786) for most incidents. A major incident is typically assigned its own tactical channel.
Mountain Communities Fire Protection District
Mountain Communities Fire Protection District is dispatched by Teller County Dispatch on VHF conventional.
Unit Designators
Douglas County fire units use many numerical designators that can be used to help determine general location and departments responding to an incident.
